Down Hole Percussion

Determination Drilling & Soil Investigations is fully equipped for down the hole hammer (DTHH) drilling. It is used in the drilling industry to produce piles into rock and drilling holes to install geothermal loops for a geothermal installation. In most rock types, this is a quick and efficient way to drill through bedrock to install monitoring wells.

The hammer (lead) has a percussion mechanism located directly behind the drill bit. The drill string transmits the necessary feed force and rotation to the hammer and bit. Compressed air is sent through the drill string with our air compressor. The air not only flushes the cuttings away, it activates the hammering at the bottom of the drill string, this means that the impact energy does not have to pass through the drill string at all, allowing for much deeper percussion drilling.
